CHICAGO (Reuters) - Critical darling "Upon Midwestern Shores" will end its contentious run after the completion of this summer season, announced series creator hucksterfinn today, paving the way for a fall premiere of "That Girl", chronicling the misadventures of the gay male, new-millenial Ann Marie struggling to make it in New York City. "I LIKE Chicago," explained finn. "It just doesn't care for me that much."

"Shores", plagued by difficulties from its inception, follows the ups and downs of a California queer starting a new life in Chicago. Last May, the troubled dramedy was acquired by udn following rival weblet dubya-d's decision to place the series on hiatus after its controversial spring finale.

udn's full-season commitment included a clause offering finn the opportunity to develop a new series for the network, in lieu of delivering another season of "Shores". "Our commitment was never to the specific setting and format of 'Shores'," confirmed udn spokesperson Cody Pendent. "It was always to the voice and vision of hucksterfinn."

Sources claim udn executives were ecstatic over finn's proposal to update "Girl", the late 60's sitcom starring Marlo Thomas as liberated and independent Ann Marie. "The way i heard it, all there was to say was 'Dig the flip! Let's do it!'," offered an unidentified udn employee. When asked what viewers could expect from this new "Girl", finn demurred. "Well, I'll probably have two first names."

udn has yet to confirm a date for the premiere of "That Girl", though industry insiders expect a start prior to the regular fall season, possibly as early as late August. New episodes of "Upon Midwestern Shores" continue on udn, culminating in the series finale August 8.
