Touched A Nerve

sometime last month, amongst my travels, i received a rather odd voice mail from a long-lost d-land buddy. yes, i said buddy. deal with it. this message had been prompted by his discovery of my personal ad in that weekly rag that ostensibly strives to inform the metro area of what's about in manhattan plus. this is what i've decided to call the five boroughs. living not in manhattan one realizes just how little ink there is on happenings outside "the city". everywhere else is an afterthought, which oddly enough is fine with me.

but back to the main narrative. yesterday i got around to getting in touch with said buddy. and it appears that the ad was featured, which i find wildly amusing. obviously someone somewhere found my blather cute, interesting, curious or something enough to single it out. which of course appeals to my leo ego. but i've not received a single response in months. not that i've been that active with the out-of-town-ness and all.

so then i started to think...(this is where i scrunch down into my best sarah jessica parker)...is there anybody in this city ready for this jelly? i mean, come on. i guess that someone who reads adbusters and the economist with the same verve; who just might back the unicorns with britney; who considers all that heaven allows, fellini's satyricon and switchblade sisters "a damn fine triple feature"; whose bookshelf features james, palahniuk and clancy; who mourns the dearth of quality television whilst bathing in every delicious moment of days of our lives; might be a tad confusing, even intimidating. but isn't that what makes life interesting?

all it really takes is an open mind. and honestly, those seem to be in short supply these days. i'm eager to be proved wrong. just saying.
