Heaven? Or Far From It?
2002-11-15

tonight, i'm going to the movies. that's right, going to see a motion picture at the cinema. gonna queue up on a friday night in manhattan, cough up ten bucks and get my flick on. i haven't been to the movies in months. in fact, i think the last film i saw on the big screen was 24 hour party people, courtesy of my bestest friend in the world back in early september. so, believe me, i'm excited. i like the movies.

but, i'm not going to see just any old movie. i'm going to see todd haynes' new masterpiece, far from heaven. masterpiece, you say? but you haven't even seen it yet! oh, i trust in the todd. with a track record like superstar: the karen carpenter story, poison, safe and velvet goldmine, who wouldn't? then, there is the whole set in the 1950's thing, the melodrama, the color, the lighting, the suburbs, the fashions, the julianne moore. if cq was the quintessential expression of what i adore about the sixties, this movie will serve a similar purpose for the fifties. expect my winter obsession to be douglas sirk and women's pictures. that's gonna be a whole lotta rock hudson and NOT for the obvious reasons.
