on wednesday, i passed by this church downtown, hung with a huge banner celebrating "Five 25 minute services; Friday 12noon-3pm". I wasn't aware that God was something we squeezed in on our lunch hour these days. silly me. I understand that it IS Good Friday, (and speaking of that, the Loop is deserted; strange.) but still.

saw sid and nancy during the week. am currently fixated on the sex pistols. more specifically, the historical, social and cultural moment from which they emerged and the fine line between art and commerce, motivations and manipulations.

had some interesting cab experiences in this city, but last night took the cake. hopped in a cab outside le colonial, where kate and i had gone for a great reunion dinner, to make sure she got back to her hotel, the intercontinental, safe and sound. no more than ten block separate these two points. on his way down michigan, the cabbie misses the hotel, using the wrigley building turnout to return north on michigan and passes the hotel again, finally turning off on a side street which, of course, put us on the lower level of all that hell down there. the cabbie proceeds to tell us how absent-minded he is (like we couldn't figure that out; guess that was designed to head off any stronger invective WE might have thrown) AND THEN having ascertained that we are from california, begins prattling on about southern california and los angeles unintelligibly. surreal, suffocating and sad.
