Just a Good Ol' Boy, Never Meanin' No Harm

Waylon Jennings 1937-2002

Waylon has a special place in my heart, having grown up listening to plenty of country music in the 1980's as my parents discovered their nashville roots after banishing our entire family to the middle of nowhere Northern California. With rodeos, wranglers (wrangler butts STILL drive me nuts) and radio station KALF (i can still hear those witty station identification spots; "this is KALF country"), my unintentional immersion in all things country has left me with a soft spot for the occassional ditty, including such classics as "i'm gonna hire a wino to decorate our home" (so you'll feel more at ease there and you won't need to roam), "all my ex's live in texas" (that's why i hangs my hat in tennessee) and "jose cuervo" (you ARE a friend of mine).

those of you that missed out on a "yee-haw" adolescence probably know mr. jennings from a fine television moment, the theme song to The Dukes of Hazzard, the show that turned cut-off jeans up your crotch into "daisy dukes". i admit, i soaked up every minute of that abysmal reunion movie (i have a thing for reunion movies) and catherine bach looks a little worse for wear these days but that John Schneider? different story. His return to primetime television as Pa Kent on the WB's Smallville may be derided in some quarters, but i say "bring on the hot!"

speaking of hot and smallville, tom welling has flown (i know, a bad pun and i hate puns, but whatever!) past roswell's jason behr as the dark, brooding hottie-bar-none on television these days, though glory days' resident lovable teen ben crowley is giving him a run for his money since its debut last month (i'm pretty sure i'm going to jail just for thinking this; "that's just a little bit more than the law will allow"!) and speaking of glory days, i'm hooked if only to see theresa russell, star of such film classics as black widow and WHORE, on a weekly basis, starring as the plucky, been-around-the-block single mom. bring it!
