Killing Me Softly With His Song
2004-06-09

out of the blue, i tells ya. so i'm checking my email this morning and there is my weekly update from insound regarding all that is hip and happening in the world of indie rock and i click over because royal city has a new album out and i love those guys and i wanna see if anything off the disc is streaming on insound radio, even though i would probably buy it sound unheard. and so i'm checking out new tracks from !!! and royal city and a.c. newman and communique when, all of the sudden, comes in this big bad piano riff. the opening strains of keane's somewhere only we know, which i had heard about but had yet to hear. and immediately, i'm choked up. by the end of the first verse, tears are welling up and by the chorus, i'm full on sobbing. i can't remember the last time the first listen to something reduced me to a blubbering idiot. i'm a tad reticent to transfer this to my ipod for fear of dissolving into tears on the subway. guess i got some stuff going on. but then, i've always been a tad sensitive that way.
